This review is JL 707 business class departing Narita Airport, Tokyo at 18: 23 and arriving in Bangkok, Thailand at 20: 00. I was able to eat a very delicious in-flight meal on this flight! It is one of JAL’s flagship in-flight meals, the “Japanese cuisine”.
This in-flight meal included a variety of ingredients and I enjoyed the rich color and delicious taste. This review describes the in-flight meal and seat issues.
B787-8 “SHELL FLAT NEO”
The aircraft I used for JAL Bangkok is Boeing 787 -8. The types of seats on the aircraft vary depending on the route. The seats on this flight are “SHELL FLAT NEO”.
The 2 -2 -2 model is an older model that has been in use since before JAL’s new “Sky Suite” seat was adopted, but it is still in service on short routes connecting Japan and Southeast Asia.
The seats are more than 50 centimeters wide and have partitions, desk lights and cocktail tables in the arms. There is a leg rest and a footrest at the foot of this seat, and I can relax very much sitting on this seat.
However, when I press the controller attached to the armrest of the seat, the seat reclines with a large angle, but stops when the seat angle reaches 170 degrees. In other words, this seat doesn’t have the function of turning into a bed. However, the JL 707 I am on is not a late night flight, so this is not a problem at all.
Champagne is CHARLES HEIDSIECK.
The drinks offered at JL 707 include wine, beer, whiskey, and Japanese SAKE, just like alcohol on the long-distance lines. The champagne served on this flight was CHARLES HEIDSIECK BRUT.
The champagne is cheaper than the DELAMOTTE BLANC DE BLANC, which is offered over long distances, so of course the taste is low. So I only drank one glass of this champagne.
Delicious Japanese food supervised by Chef Kurogi!
JAL’s first and business classes offer special chef-supervised in-flight meals for flights originating in Japan. The chef on this flight was “Kurogi” who runs a high-class restaurant in Tokyo. The restaurant run by Mr. Kurogi is famous for its difficulty in making reservations.
Hors d’oeuvres consists of six small bowls. Many kinds of fish and mushrooms are used in this menu, including high-class ingredients such as black caviar, eel, puffer fish and conger pike. This colorful dish is very delicious!
The main dish is “Japanese Style Stewed Beef Tongue Miso-marinated Salmon”. This very tender beef melted as soon as I put it in my mouth! This stew tastes good and this is a very delicious dish.
In this JL 707, we can choose from 2 menus, “Japanese cuisine” and “Western Cuisine”, but I thought we should definitely choose Japanese food on flights from Japan.
Dessert and cheese
The Japanese dessert is “Kanmi”. It means “sweet things”. I think this dessert is a popular Japanese food called “Mizu-Yokan”. Mizu-Yokan, which I always eat in Japan, is sweet and delicious, but this menu has a light flavor and is not very good.
Normally, Mizu-Yokan is the only dessert in Japanese cuisine, but when I asked CA to “I want to eat western dessert too.” CA immediately agreed. This is “Chestnut Tiramisu”. This tiramisu is probably not as sweet as the tiramisu you eat in America or Europe.
I feel the flavor of milk when I eat this, but I wanted a deeper bitterness. If we want to eat delicious dessert, we should go to Paris, France.
I ordered cheese after I finished my dessert, but I was surprised by the poor plate. The business class cheese I imagine has more varieties than this, and the presentation is gorgeous.
This cheddar cheese and Camembert cheese have no smell, so I can easily eat this. However, these cheeses have less flavor because they have less odor and taste. After all, I think cheese should be eaten in Europe.
Tickets for Premier Lane
In this JL 707, we can get tickets to enter the priority lane for immigration inspection in Bangkok. But when the plane arrived at Bangkok Airport, the rush hour had already ended. So I didn’t use this ticket and saved it for my next visit to Bangkok.

I have been on JAL business class many times, but I know that the taste of JAL business class in-flight meals varies greatly depending on the route and season. Mr. Kurogi’s Japanese food which I ate in this JL 707 was very delicious, but please know that not all the in-flight meals are delicious.
